Permaculture by the Sea

This was a special project. The clients were a married couple, heading into their 80’s and aiming to slow down their busy life living between two houses, and settle more permanently in their seaside home. The husband, the CEO of a successful engineering company he built from the ground up, was excited to step back from work in this new decade of their lives and focus on his hobbies. A passionate bird lover and bee-keeper; he wanted a space where they could grow an abundance of vegetables and fruits, keep his beloved bees, tend to his outdoor aviary and be surrounded by beauty.

The garden space was at the very top of a steep block. Not visible from the house, but still an area that would be highly used. The final design solution was rustic and Mediterranean-inspired, which was in-keeping with the topography of the garden. The focus was on improving the soil, bringing in beneficial insects, providing blossoms for the bees, and fitting in as many fruit and vegetable species as possible.
